Artwork Entry Categories

  •  2-Dimensional – Covers any type of painting, drawing, wood burning, etc. created on a flat surface.
  • 3-Dimensional – This is pretty open. Could be any sort of sculpture, carving, stained glass, fused glass, ceramics, mosaic, woodwork, beadwork, metal, etc. Basically, it is a piece that isn’t flat.
  • Photography (Black & White and Color) – Both of these subcategories are pretty straightforward. Digital enhancement is allowed.
  • Fiber Art, 100% Samoyed hair or blend – Typically this will be something like a hat, scarf, afghan, wall hanging, sweater, pillow, etc. Basically, they are to be made entirely of yarn, which is made with some percentage of Samoyed hair. Needle felted pieces made with Sammy hair/blend are also fine for entry into this category.
  • Fiber Art, Embellished with Samoyed Hair – This could include many different types of fiber-based items, as long as they are adorned/decorated with some added amount of Samoyed hair. In other words, an entry in this category should not be made entirely of 100% Samoyed hair or blend, but it should include some in the piece and it should be a fiber item.
  • Fiber Art, Samoyed Motif – This includes items made with any sort of fiber, which represent a Samoyed-themed design. Examples could be fabric paint applied to any sort of item, quilted pieces, knitted or crocheted items with a Samoyed in the pattern, stuffed pieces, etc. They should portray Samoyeds in some way. (NOTE: Needle felted items made without any Samoyed hair could fit in this category.)

Level of Mastery

For the purposes of judging, artist shall designate their entries by Level of Mastery:

  • Amateur
  • Professional

What is the difference between the Professional and Amateur Mastery Levels?

This distinction has nothing to do with whether or not a person makes a living selling their art (or has ever sold a piece). Your mastery of one technique or medium might be at the amateur level, while you may be an “old pro” when creating art in a different medium.

It is up to you to decide what level of mastery you have achieved in any given medium.  As such, if you enter more than one item in the Samoyed Art Show, each entry should be designated at the appropriate mastery level for your work in that specific medium.

Preparation of Entries

We suggest that you take measures to protect your 2-Dimensional pieces and photographic pieces.  They also need to be displayable.  Matting serves this function very well.  Frames are also acceptable, but not required.  If your piece is likely to smudge, we suggest you cover it with shrink-wrap, glass, acrylic or a similar type of protection.  Entering good quality prints of your original work is another excellent way to avoid smudging.

Please mark your artwork with your name in a location that will not show during display, such as the bottom of 3-dimensional pieces or the back of 2-dimensional pieces.  Fabric pieces may be marked on the inside or with an attached tag that is hidden from view.

Both the Amateur and Professional levels are judged in each of the 7 mediums and awarded 1st through 4th place rosettes.  Additionally, we award Top Amateur, Top Professional, and Best in Samoyed Art Show!

PLEASE DON’T FORGET!

The deadline for delivering entries to the Art Show Committee on site is Monday, 10/21/24 at 5:00 PM

We appreciate your interest in entering the 2024 Samoyed Art Show and we look forward to seeing your artistic masterpieces!
