While an AKC conformation dog show may look like a beauty pageant to a casual observer, it is not.
The dogs are being measured by how closely they conform to the AKC written standard for their particular breed. The breed standard details desirable and undesirable attributes of appearance and temperament for the breed. The dogs are then judged based on their structure, physical characteristics and exhibited temperament according to this clear and concise blueprint.
The Samoyed standard is largely based on form following function. Prick ears, thick double coat, hare-foot, and belly tuck-up are just a few examples of characteristics in our AKC standard which enabled the Samoyed to perform effectively as a sled puller and a herding dog thriving in a harsh Siberian environment. Their personalities allowed them to co-exist peacefully with other dogs and people in close quarters.

The American Bank Center is the show site for 2024 National Specialty. This is a true bayfront experience! Just cross the street and you are immediately on the water!
Just a brief 4-minute drive (.7 miles) from our host hotel, the Omni, the American Bank Center contains over 200,000 square feet. This state-of-the-art facility consists of an arena, auditorium and convention center, and hosts numerous conventions, trade shows, exhibitions, live performances, and sporting events. Our show is in Exhibit Halls A & B with over 76,000 square feet of space. The facility sits adjacent to the Art Museum of South Texas, the Science & History Museum, and the Corpus Christi Watergarden, and has plenty of green space to exercise dogs.
All conformation, obedience, rally, weight-pull, art show, judges’ education, health clinics, and dog wash will be inside this climate controlled convention center.
